In reply to your enquiry with reference to Chinese Extradition cases, I am instructed to say that, as all extradition proceedings in this Colony are conducted by the Crown, and as it is not considered either necessary or advisable that the legal officers of the Crow should avail themselves of any out- -side assistance in these matters, it would appear undesirable that the Chinese Authorities should appoint you as their Solicitors for extradition proceedings in the Colony.

I am to add that the recent case of Chung Sau Nam was made an exception to this rule for very special reasons, and that the Chinese Authorities have already been informed that it cannot be drawn into a precedent.
